Senate confirms Adetunmbi as South-West Development Commission Chair, approves full board

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi from Ekiti State as Chairman of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC).

Charles Akinola was also confirmed as the Managing Director, alongside 16 other nominees who will serve as board members of the commission.

This confirmation came after the Senate received and reviewed the report from its Committee on South-West Development Commission, led by Senator Yunus Akintunde (APC, Oyo Central).

Those confirmed as board members include Bolaji Ariyo, Joseph Olugbenga, Scholastica Omoworare, Olumuyiwa Olabimtan, Adewinle Martins, Ibrahim Olaifa, Kabiru Lakwaya, retired General Abdul Adamu, Arinola Fagbemi, Ukoha Onyekwere, and Howell Ihenacho.

Also confirmed for executive roles are:

Olugbenga Olufehinti – Executive Director, Projects
Tele Ogunjobi – Executive Director, Finance
Funmilayo Tejuosho – Executive Director, Corporate Services
Fatai Ibikunle – Executive Director, Commercial and Environmental Development
Lateef Ajijola – Executive Director, Social and Human Capital Development

President Bola Tinubu had earlier submitted the list of nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The request, read at plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was sent to the appropriate committee with a one-week deadline to report progress.

With the confirmation completed, the South-West Development Commission is now set to begin operations aimed at fostering socio-economic development across the six states in the region.
