Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko can now begin to run Allied Health Sciences and other eight courses from 2024/2025 academic session as National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of the programmes.
The newly approved programmes are Nursing Science, Public Health, and Medical Laboratory Science in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences; Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, and Information Systems in the Faculty of Computing; Food Science and Technology in the Faculty of Agriculture.
This was made known in a letter dated September 6, 2024, and addressed to the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige.
According to the Head, Information, Protocol and Public Relations of the varsity, Victor Akinpelumi, the letter was signed by NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary.
Speaking on the new development, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, expressed his excitement over the development, describing it as “a fitting icing on the cake of the efforts put into the preparations for the new programmes.”
He, therefore, disclosed that the admission of qualified candidates would commence in earnest for the new programmes starting from this year’s academic session, as outlined in the NUC’s letter.
The Vice Chancellor emphasised that the management of AAUA has the human, material, and infrastructural resources necessary to teach the new programmes and produce graduates who would compete favourably with their peers globally.
He, therefore, congratulated members of the university community for their efforts and cooperation, saying, “We are proud of this, and we thank every stakeholder who has made this possible.”
