NDLEA arrests 353 suspects, seizes 3.1m Kg of hard drugs in Taraba

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Taraba State has arrested 353 suspects, including 18 women, for various drug-related offences between June 2024 and June 2025.

State Commander of the agency, Ali Umar, revealed this during a press briefing commemorating the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

He said the command also confiscated over 3.1 million kilograms of hard drugs, including cannabis sativa and psychotropic substances, during the period under review.

Umar disclosed that the NDLEA had secured 53 convictions of drug offenders at the Federal High Court in Jalingo, with several other cases still ongoing. In addition, cannabis farms were identified and destroyed across eight local government areas in the state.

Despite these successes, the Commander highlighted several challenges facing the agency.

These include lack of community cooperation, inadequate accommodation, poor logistics, and the absence of a dedicated treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation centre.

Umar, however, commended the strong collaboration between the NDLEA and other security agencies in the state, particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing and transfer of suspects and exhibits.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to winning the war against drug abuse in Taraba.
