An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Thursday adjourned till Feb. 9, 2017, for mention the case of a lecturer, Rukeme Nosereme, charged on account of alleged N10.5 million fraud.
Nosereme, 40, was first arraigned on April 12, on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and fraud which he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
At the resumed hearing on Thursday, the prosecutor, Insp.Steven Molo, told the court that the case was slated for trial. He, however, said that the parties would want an adjournment to give Nosereme the grace to comply with the terms of settlement reached at the High court.
The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, consequently adjourned till Feb. 9, 2017 for mention.
The prosecutor had during arraignment said that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 20, 2014 at 12.00 p.m., at Ijeshatedo area of Surulere, Lagos.
He said that the accused fraudulently obtained N10.5 million from one Mr George Osaji under guise of selling to him a house located at No. 26, Obalodu St., Ijeshatedo, Lagos, to him.
The prosecutor said that the accused had inherited the property which he pretended to sell to the complainant through his late father, Pa John Nosereme.
Molo said that the money for the purchase of the property was paid to the accused through an interbank money transfer.
“Osaji paid the money through his First Bank account to the accused’s First Bank account,” he said.
He said that the accused fraudulently concealed the said money meant for the sale of the said property, thereby stealing the money.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 324(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos,2011.
