Man killed on birthday buried in Lagos

A 24-year-old man, Afenghide George, whose killing was allegedly sponsored by a hotel manager, was buried on Saturday at Atan Cemetary, Yaba, Lagos.

The father of the deceased, Mr Matthew George-Umaigba, a 55-year-old businessman, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.

George-Umaigba said his son was buried after an autopsy was carried out at LUTH and the report submitted to the police for investigation.

NAN reports that Afenghide was on Nov. 27 shot at close range by four men in front of his house at No. 61, Ojuelegba Road, Surulere, Lagos.

He died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba seven days later, the day he was to mark his 24th birthday.

The hotel manager, simply identified as Solomon (a.k.a Sanction), and two others, are currently detained at the State CID Panti over the killing.

According the bereaved father, the autopsy said Afenghide died due to gun shot.
”The autopsy report reveals penetrating abdominal gunshot injury till death,” he said.

The businessman, who is pained by his son’s death, called on the Inspector-General of Police to ensure justice over the murder.

”I do not want my son to just die like that while the killers are moving freely. I am in pain.
”Four other suspects involved in the killing are still walking freely,” he added.

The Lagos police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the arrest and autopsy, adding that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
