Renowned actress and movie producer, Funke Akindele, has been appointed as an ambassador and the
face of iROKO World, a fully Nollywood movie channel on Pay-TV operator, Startimes, by iROKO media.
iROKO World was formerly known as iROKO Plus.
This,as iROKO media said their desire to take Nollywood globally necessitated the need to rebrand
from iROKO Plus, aired on Startimes, to iROKO World,while delivering on their mandate of providing quality services.
The Group head, legal and distribution, iROKO media, Uloma Onuma, said this in Lagos at the unveiling of Funke Akindele as the platforms ambassador.
Onuma said the success they have been able to attain within the short span of their being on Startimes, as they launched two different channels on the platform last year, added to the fact that they want to be a brand name in the country and showcase the beauty of Nollywood to a worldwide audience makes the upgrade necessary.
She said: ” There is no limitation in moving from iROKO Plus to iROKO World, as it is to give more to our customers, which is why we are rebranding, as we will continue to provide over 250 top quality Nollywood movies and programmes on our 24 hours channel under Startimes.”
Funke Akindele also known as ‘Jenifa’,said she feels privileged and honoured to be recognised as a part of the channel, as
she believes so much in entertainment putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians in whatever state they
find themselves.
“Expect more great movies from me as i am everywhere entertainment is to put smiles on peoples
faces and very soon i would start my reality show on iROKO world.”
The Marketing Director of Startimes, Mr Dare Kafar said they are happy having Akindele to drive the local content, provided by iROKO World, which is a core of Startimes idea on providing hyper local
content to Nigerians.
Kafar said the agreement is the beginning of more to come as the pay tv operator is very interested
in providing quality programmes to their teeming viewers globally and is working tirelessly to offer premium and exclusive channels in their spirited efforts to offer relevant and competitive programming at the same affordable subscription fees.
