Former Edo House Speaker, Okiye, Resigns Membership Of PDP

A former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Francis Okiye, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Okiye’s resignation has worsened the gale of resignations that had hit the PDP in recent times.

The resignation by leaders of the party across the state represent significant protests against Governor Godwin Obaseki’s hijack of the party.

Obaseki had deployed the machinery of goverment in foisting his candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, on the party as the governorship candidate in the September 21, 2024 governorship poll.

The Legacy Group that admitted 0baseki into the party in 2020 when his former party, the APC, edged him out of the race for the party’s “reelection” ticket, was roundly shortchanged by governor and his camp, setting the tone for the ongoing grudge battle to weaken the PDP and set the stage for Obaseki and his candidate’s loss in the guber poll.

Okiye was aldo at sone intersection Majority Leader in the State House of Assembly where he was a three-time member.
