The All Progressives Congress in the State of Osun has told critics of Gov. Rauf Aregbesola’s investment in education, especially his feeding programme of school children, to get wiser to common sense as the Federal Government has comprehensively vindicated the governor on that project.
According to the party, ‘if that project was not strategic to human capital and socio-economic development, the Federal Government would not have adopted it for implementation on a national scale.
‘That the critics, some portfolio civil society groups and some labour unions were calling on Aregbesola to scrap the project, so that funds be released to pay workers’ salaries,is a measure of their superficial mindset, the party declared.

The Director of Publicity, Barr. Kunle Oyatomi made these observations in a chat with newsmen in Osogbo.
He drew attention of Nigerians to the share magnitude of the import and impact of the project, not only on attracting more children to schools but also providing relief and hundreds of thousands of jobs to workers in the agricultural and catering sectors of the economy.
The APC spokesperson referred the newsmen to the statement of Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo of the Federal Government’s commitment to the school feeding programme, which the VP said would, amongst other components, ‘create 1.4 million new jobs, increase food production by 530,000 metric tons annually and attract investment of N980 billion’.
According to the APC, to even contemplate scrapping the project in Osun, as the critics were suggesting, was shallow, even if consistent with the low stuff of which the PDP operators in Osun are made.
‘What Aregbesola’s critics. failed to appreciate’, the APC said, ‘was that some of the best brains in Yoruba part of Nigeria put together the education policy that the governor is implementing, and at the head of that ‘think tank’ was Prof. Wole Soyinka.
‘It is no surprise therefore that the APC government of President Mohammadu Buhari has decided to give national expression to what Aregbesola did in Osun’, the APC said.
The party spokesman recalled that apart from the other knock-on effects the project had for job creation and agricultural expansion, Osun recorded the highest enrollment figure of over 250,000 pupils into schools throughout the federation due to the feeding project.
The party also recalled ‘it earned the governor commendation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and even the British parliament invited him to share in some of the ideas behind the project.
‘If the PDP inspired spoilers in the cover of pseudonyms were deep thinkers, they would have lauded the project – but ‘it takes the deep to call to the deep’ as Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the blessed memory would say’.
