
A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old carpenter, Bashir Abdullahi to nine months in prison for stealing from a building site.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos in her judgment gave the convict an option of fine of N30, 000 or spend six months in prison.
She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N35, 000 or spend another three months in prison on default.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Nassara Gwong Police Station on March 10, by one Mallami Zakariya, the complainant.
Gokwat said the convict went to the site and stole 80 pieces of two by two wood valued at N64, 000 and 16 pieces of bush poles valued at N96, 000 before he was arrested.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
