Barely a year after suspected Boko Haram members attacked Koton Karfe Prison in Kogi State,the group on Friday night attacked the state headquarters of Department of State Security Services (DSS) in Lokoja.

Sunday Mirror gathered that the suspected Boko Haram insurgnts had stormed the State Headquarters of DSS at about 9.45 pm on Friday night in their large numbers and started shooting sporadically to cause panic for the occupants of the office and the residents of the zone 8 area along Hassan Katsina Way in Lokoja.
It was learnt that insurgents bombed some of the strategic entrances with aid of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to enable them carry their mission and release some inmates from the custody of DSS.

The unexpected invasion led to exchange of gun battle between the Boko Haram members and operatives of Department of State Security Service and other security agents who were mobilised to safe the situation.
In the fierce battle that ensued.according to report, at least three Boko Haram members were gunned down and a mobile police lost his life while defending his father land.
The insurgents, who came at about 9.45pm were armed with IEDs , AK47 Rifles and other dangerous weapons and said to have bombarded the office as they engaged the officials on duty in a fierce gun battle which last several hours.
Apparently disturbed by the invasion, a Deputy Director of the agency was said to have contacted other security agencies through a distress call to the police at about 10. 40 pm, which immediately mobilized their patrol teams to the scene to repel the
attack.
It was the combined efforts of the police team along with the Army that were later drafted in who engaged the insurgents for more than seven long hours before they were finally curtailed and overpowered as some of the Insurgents were said to have fled into the bush while three lay dead.
