…No cracks between Buhari and me, says Tinubu
THE President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Saturday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital said he will continue to support the candidacy of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, ahead of the February 25 elections.
“I have known him for more than 20 years ago, and I will continue to campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Buhari told party supporters at the presidential campaign rally in Lafia square, where he endorsed the candidature of Tinubu, his running mate, Kashim Shettima and the second-term bid of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa.
This is according to a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, titled ‘I’ll continue to campaign for Tinubu, President Buhari declares in Lafia.
Buhari thanked party supporters for defying the hot weather and standing in the sun for hours to express their support for the party’s flag bearers in the forthcoming presidential and governorship elections.
‘‘I congratulate and assure you that God willing we are going to win through and through.
“As Tinubu said in his speech, I have known him for more than 20 years ago, and I will continue to campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is a committed Nigerian and I believe he will give all his best to Nigeria.
‘‘Also vote for Abdullahi Sule for a second and final term as governor’’ he said.
Earlier, the APC presidential candidate mocked those insinuating that he is having a frosty relationship with the President.
According to him, ‘‘Those who think there are cracks in our friendship and relationship would continue to be disappointed and have their short times’ joy limited.
“Ours is not about the individual but about nation building, honesty, integrity and character.”
Tinubu thanked the President for being the ‘‘poster boy’’ of his campaign, fighting and working hard for the survival of Nigeria.
He said ‘‘Nigeria is surviving as a nation.
“Because of constitutional democracy, we would have asked you to continue, but you said no, you are going back to Daura, your hometown.”
Likening Buhari to the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, Tinubu praised him for remaining focused amidst distractions.
He promised that under his presidency, Nigeria will recover from all challenges because of the courage and resilience of its citizens.
‘‘We will work hard. We promise you that your children and grandchildren will have no regret about this nation and ourselves,’’ he said
In January, the All Progressives Congress President Campaign Council revealed that the President will appear in Tinubu’s campaign rallies in at least 10 states.
So far, he has appeared in Adamawa, Yobe, Plateau, Nasarawa and Bauchi.
However, he did not or is yet to attend rallies in Ogun, Kwara, Cross River, Sokoto, Katsina, Imo, and the grand finale in Lagos State slated for February 18.
