Two armed robbers met their waterloo as they were fatally injured when they engaged in a shootout with members of the Nigeria Police Force,Rivers state on Wednesday, as they were being intercepted during a robbery operation.
The two were part of a four-man team the Police engaged after their quick response to an alert about an ongoing crime in a house along Nsukka Street,Diobu.Rivers.
According to a statement from the Port-Harcourt SARS office and on the Police site,the robbery suspects shot at the police on sighting them,with the police returning fire immediately.
One locally-made pistol was recovered from the suspects alongside the sum of N250, 000 earlier snatched from the victims.
Two of the robbery suspects were arrested at the scene after sustaining gunshot injuries while two others fled the scene with gunshot wounds.
According to the Police command,,all the victims of the robbery were safely rescued, with injured suspects rushed to the hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other fleeing gang members with gunshot injuries as the Police SARS Port-Harcourt unit is investigating”,a statement from the NPF website said.
The Police are requesting that any body seen with gunshot wounds should be reported as soon as possible with the health authorities told to treat such victims but must report it to the police.
